Ajarn Strat. Ajarn ابدا. Day I: اليوم الاول :

1st November, what a day. أول نوفمبر ، يوم ما. After what must seem like an age, our day of reckoning had arrived, the first day of school. بعد ما يجب ان يبدو وكأنه عصر ، ونحن يوم الحساب قد وصل ، في اول يوم من المدرسة. For the last 2 weeks we had been working in the office, reviewing lesson plans and checking emails. لأننا الماضي 2 اسابيع كان يعمل فى المكتب ، واعادة النظر في خطط الدرس وفحص رسائل البريد الالكتروني. The working day of 10.00am until 3.00pm had suited us fine, but it couldn't last forever. يوم العمل من 10.00 صباحا حتى 3.00pm قد يناسب لنا بخير ، لكنه لا يمكن ان يدوم الى الابد.

My sleep and the easy life was interrupted at 5.50am on Tuesday morning. بلدي النوم وسهولة الحياة انقطع في 5.50am صباح يوم الثلاثاء. The journey to work is relatively easy and I have much respect for the bus drivers of Bangkok; they handle those buses as if they were sports cars, weaving and bullying their way through the morning rush. الرحله الى العمل سهلة نسبيا وعندي الكثير من الاحترام لسائقي حافلات من بانكوك ؛ انهم معالجة تلك الحافلات كأنهم رياضة السيارات والنسيج والتسلط في طريقهم من خلال الاندفاع الصباح.

When I arrived at the school, specialising in music, I was given a warm welcome by Pee Toom, the head of the English department, and I don't think that I am guilty of narcissism when I say she took a certain liking to me. عندما وصلت الى المدرسة ، والمتخصصون في الموسيقى ، وأنني أعطيت ترحيبا من جانب Pee toom ، رئيسا للقسم اللغة الانكليزيه ، وانا لا اعتقد انني مذنب نرجسيه عندما اقول انها أحاطت معين تروق لي . During our introduction she demonstrated her understanding that some words in English can have more than one meaning, "Wow, it's hot!" خلال اعمالنا مقدمة اثبتت انها فهمت ان بعض الكلمات باللغه الانكليزيه يمكن ان يكون لها اكثر من معنى ، "نجاح ، وهو حار!" I said to her, questioning the fact that it's winter here in Thailand. قلت لها : والتشكيك في حقيقة انه الشتويه هنا في تايلند. "You're hot, are you?, you know HOT" she giggled in reply. "انت الساخن ، وأنت؟ ، تعلمون الساخنه" وقالت انها giggled في الرد. The time crept closer to 8.20am, the start of my first lesson, whilst Pee Toom explained what type of school this was and what she didn't like about my predecessor. الوقت زحف اقرب الى 8.20am ، بداية من بلادي الدرس الأول ، بينما Pee toom اوضح ما نوع المدرسة ، وهذا هو ما قالت انها لم تكن تحب عن سلفي.

"He was always chewing gum" she explained, I'll be alright on that point I thought can't stand the stuff personally. "كان حاضرا دائما علك" اوضحت انا سأكون حسنا على تلك النقطه واعتقد لا يمكن ان تصمد امام مادة شخصيا.
"and cursing the children in Thai". "ووجهت شتائم الاطفال في تايلند". I can promise only to curse them in English, would that be ok? استطيع ان الوعد الوحيد شتم لهم باللغه الانكليزيه ، من شأنه ان يكون حسنا؟
"You see, we are a, how do you say, musical school, some of our children are emotional." "كنت انظر ، نحن ، كيف اقول ، ومدرسة موسيقيه ، وبعض من اطفالنا العاطفية". Right, now I understand what type of 'music' school this is, can you show me the door please. الحق ، وأنا أفهم الآن ما هو نوع 'الموسيقى' المدرسة وهذا هو ، هل تستطيع ان تبين لي أن باب الرجاء.
But it was too late I was given my timetable and taken to my first class. لكن الوقت كان قد فات كنت بلدي نظرا الى الجدول الزمني واتخذت بلادي من الدرجة الاولى. As I entered, the class 'prefect' called out to the class, "Stand up please." كما انني دخلت ، والطبقة 'الحاكم' ودعا الى الصف ، "الوقوف في الرجاء." The class stood up. الصنف وقفت.
"Good morning teacher" the class said chorally "صباح الخير يا معلم" من الدرجة قال بشكل كورالي
Well that's a good start I thought "Good morning class, how are you? بالاضافة الى ذلك بداية طيبة فكرت "صباح الخير يا الطبقة ، كيف حالك؟
"We are well, thank you teacher, and you" "نحن جيدا ، وشكرا المعلمين ، ولكم"
"I'm very well thank you class, please sit down" "انا جيد جدا شكرا الطبقة ، يرجى الجلوس"
"Thank you teacher" "شكرا يا معلم"

And that was the last time that they paid any attention to me for that lesson. وكانت تلك المرة الاخيرة التي سددوا قيمة اي اهتمام لي لذلك الدرس. The next class made the first look orderly and contained. القادم من الدرجة جعلت الاطلاله الاولى منظم والواردة. By the third and my last class for the day I was quite happy for them to talk amongst themselves in Thai, as I was busy myself, planning my next career move. بحلول الثالث والاخير الذي قدمته الطبقة ليوم وكنت سعيدا جدا للهم بالتحدث فيما بينهم في تايلند ، وكما كنت مشغولا بنفسي ، والتخطيط وجهتي المقبلة الوظيفي التحرك.

When I arrived home the look on Tanja's face showed that our day had been similar, bloody awful. وعندما وصلت الى المنزل النظرة على وجه tanja اظهرت ان أيامنا كانت مماثلة ، دمويه بشعه. That night, in-between looking at each other and shaking our heads in disbelief, we discussed tactics. في تلك الليلة ، في الفترات الفاصله بين النظر الى بعضنا البعض وتهز رؤوسنا في كفرا ، وبحثنا في التكتيكات. Thai children are different, they will respect you if you smile a lot and play games with them, sing, dance, act like a clown. التايلنديه الاطفال المختلفة ، وانهم سيحترمون لكم اذا كنت أبتسم كثيرا وتلعب مباريات معهم ، في الغناء ، والرقص ، ويتصرفون مثل مهرج أ. If you used these techniques in an English classroom you'd be fighting a losing battle straight away. اذا كنت تستخدم هذه التقنيات في الانجليزيه الصفوف كنت تكون نخوض معركة خاسرة رأسا. Maybe I'd approached the day all wrong. ربما كنت اقترب يوم كل الخطأ.
