It was terrible, the ship was not able to move forward an inch even with full throttle in the Engine. انه كان فظيعا ، فان السفينة لم تكن قادرة على المضي قدما حتى بوصة مع كامل الصمام الخانق في المحرك. The sea became very rough and the ship was tossing like paper boat! البحار اصبح شديد الموج والسفينة كانت مثل القذف ورقة القارب! The regular rolling and pitching in the strong current also lost the rhythm due to unregulated stormy wind. العادي والمتداول في الترويج تيارا قويا كما خسر ايقاع غير المنظم بسبب الرياح العاصفة. It was impossible to stand in the instrument room where two scientists were on duty. كان من المستحيل الوقوف في صك الغرفة حيث كانت عالمان على واجب. They were recording magnetic data as well as physiographic features of the seabed below the sea level in the echo sounder. كانوا تسجيل البيانات المغنطيسيه فضلا عن ميزات physiographic من قاع البحر دون مستوى سطح البحر في صدى اسلم. It was nighttime; the sky above was covered with dark clouds and lightening from there was falling over the high sea waves! كان الليل ؛ السماء فوق مغطاة مع السحب الداكنه من الصواعق وكان هناك هبوط يزيد ارتفاع الأمواج!

The crewmembers took their positions in the Engine room and in the Wheelhouse. افراد الطاقم اخذت مواقعها فى غرفة المحرك وفي غرفة القيادة. Telephones were constantly buzzing in different cabins. الهواتف باستمرار الأز في حجرات مختلفة. Sounds of falling objects in different corners of the ship made every one panicky. سقوط اشياء من الأصوات في مختلف اركان السفينة بذلت كل واحدة panicky.

I told the scientists on duty to close the instrument room and to come in the front deck! فقلت العلماء على واجب لاغلاق غرفة الاجهزه والتي ستأتي في الجبهة سطح السفينة! Many of the scientists were vomiting due to the tossing of the ship; I too felt whirling of my stomach and hurriedly went to the bathroom and vomited. كثير من العلماء الى التقيؤ بسبب القذف من السفينة ؛ انا ايضا شعرت الدوامه من بلادي المعده بعجاله وذهبت الى الحمام ومتقيا. I felt like sleeping but suddenly remembered the Nansen bottles were kept in the front deck. شعرت مثل النوم ولكن فجاه يتذكر قوارير نانسن ابقيت في الجبهة سطح السفينة. Who could predict the sudden storm of that kind! الذين يمكن ان يتنبأ المفاجئ عاصفه من هذا النوع! The bottles were kept in the deck with a plan to collect water samples from the ocean bottom at about three kilometers beneath! أبقيت الزجاجات في سطح السفينة مع وضع خطة لجمع عينات المياه من قاع المحيط على نحو ثلاثة كيلومترات أسفل! The sudden storm had spoiled the entire plan; but now how to get back the bottles! المفاجئ عاصفه قد فسدت الخطة برمتها ؛ ولكن الآن كيف ان نعود الزجاجات! The storm with the heavy down pour and the high breaking waves made every thing mesh! العاصفة مع الثقيلة وأسفل من أجل كسر الامواج العالية بذلت كل شيء شبكة! I came out from by cabin and peeped in the instrument room where Samir and Debojyoti were still inside and sitting on the chair. جئت بها من جانب المقصوره وpeeped في غرفة الاجهزه وسمير debojyoti حيث كانت لا تزال بداخلها ويجلس على كرسي. I requested them to come along to the front deck. انا طلبت منها ان تأتي الى طول الجبهة سطح السفينة. We three with great difficulties came down to the port side of the ship. نحن مع ثلاث صعوبات كبيرة ونزل الى الميناء بجانب السفينة. We were slowly walking with great care and taking the support of different pillars and strong iron railing of the ship. كنا المشي ببطء مع أخذ الحذر الشديد وبدعم من مختلف القوى واعمدة درابزون الحديد السفينة. The seawater was splashing and occasionally was flooding the deck. فان مياه البحر كان الرش واحيانا كانت تغرق سطح السفينة. One searchlight was kept on near to the AC controlling room. احد الضوء الكشاف ابقى على لجنة التدقيق بالقرب من غرفة التحكم. In that shaded light the foamy water was seen to flow and cross over the deck from one side to the other. في ضوء ذلك فإن مظلله رغوي المياه شوهد تدفق وعبور فوق سطح السفينة من جانب الى آخر.

The floor was oily and was slippery. الكلمه هي الزيتيه وكان زلق. Somehow we reached near to the AC room; Nansen bottles were kept a little away near to the front edge of the deck. بطريقة ما وصلنا الى قرب الغرفة الى لجنة التدقيق ؛ نانسن الزجاجات وقد ابقى بعيدا قليلا عن قرب على الحافه الاماميه من سطح السفينة. The bottles were tied with the winch; they were rolling back and forth with thudding sound. الزجاجات كانت تعادلت مع رافعه ؛ كانوا المتداول جيءه وذهابا مع الارتطام سليمة. We were to reach there very carefully after crossing the hanging lifeboat over our head! كنا هناك لتصل بعناية شديدة وبعد عبور شنقا حبل النجاة لدينا اكثر من رئيس! Just below the lifeboat, a loft like structure was there, which were covered with wooden doors and where ship’s storage like cabbage, potatoes and onions used to be kept. اقل بقليل من قارب النجاة ، الغرفة العلويه مثل هيكل كان هناك ، والتي كانت مغطاة مع الأبواب الخشبيه وفيها السفينة تخزين مثل الملفوف والبطاطا والبصل وجرت العادة على أن أبقى. That was however a short of transit arrangement, otherwise the real store was much bigger, refrigerated well and was located in the down floor. ولكن ان كانت قصيرة للعبور الترتيب ، والا كان المتجر الحقيقي اكبر بكثير ، والمبردة جيدا وكانت تقع في الطابق اسفل. Flopping sound of the wooden door from the loft area was heard every now and then, the shade of the lifeboat was protecting that loft from the torrential rains. التخبط السليمه من باب خشبي من الغرفة العلويه المجال كانت تسمع بين الحين والآخر ، والظل هو حبل النجاة للحمايه ان الغرفة العلويه من الامطار الغزيره. Holding the iron railing near to the loft in the port side we were walking down towards the Nansel bottle step by step. عقد الحديد بالقرب من سور الى الغرفة العلويه في ميناء الجانب كنا المشي الى اسفل نحو nansel زجاجة خطوة فخطوه. Mean while we found D’ Suja, one crewman was standing in one corner of the loft and below the lifeboat. يعني حين وجدنا د 'suja ، فرد من طاقم واحد كان يقف في ركن من الغرفة العلويه ودون قارب النجاة. D’Suja was familiar to us, as he often joined in the operation for sample collection from the seabed. D' suja هو مألوف لدينا ، كما انه في كثير من الاحيان وانضم في العملية لجمع عينات من قاع البحر. His duty was allotted during the nighttime; he was an interesting person, always in happy mood and he would do some thing or other during the dead journey of the ship. واجبه هو المخصص أثناء الليل ؛ كان الشخص مثيرة للاهتمام ، ودائما في مزاج سعيد وقال انه سيفعل بعض الشيء او غيرها من خلال الميت رحلة السفينة. He was very good in craftwork and would entertain others by his sweet melodious Goanese songs. وقال انه كان جيدا جدا في الاعمال الحرفيه وغيرها من شأنه ان يراودها من صاحب حلوة رخيم goanese الاغاني. Every body was pleased for his nice behavior and charming personality. كل هيئة عن سروره لبلدة نيس سلوك وشخصية السحر.

But what he was doing there! ولكن ما الذي كان يقوم به هناك! In this stormy and rainy night why he was standing all alone! في هذه العاصفة والامطار ليلة لماذا كان يقف كل وحدها! I asked him “ Hello D’Suja, what are you doing here?” وسألته "مرحبا d' suja ، ماذا تفعلين هنا؟"

- “ Nothing in particular, sir! -- "ما من شيء على وجه الخصوص ، سيدي! I am just observing the birds and guarding them for their safety.” انا فقط مراقبة الطيور والحراسه لهم حفاظا على سلامتهم. "
I could not understand and so I asked him again “ Safety for the birds! لم استطع فهم ذلك ، وسألته مرة أخرى "السلامة للطيور! Where are they?” اين هم الان؟ "

- “ Please come here and you will see them on the other side of the gully.” -- "الرجاء يأتون الى هنا وسترون منهم على الجانب الآخر من اخوار."

I was curious and meanwhile Samir and Debojyoti went ahead to collect the Nansen bottles, returned with them in hand, and reached to the place where D’Suja was standing. أنا الغريب وسمير الاثناء وdebojyoti مضي قدما في تحصيل نانسن الزجاجات ، وعاد الى جنب معهم ، وصلت الى المكان الذي كان يقف d' suja. They were wet in the rains. كانوا الرطب في الامطار. I also went up the raised platform below the lifeboat and approached to them. انني كما ارتفع وقد اثيرت منهاج دون حبل النجاة واقترب اليهم. D’Suja waved and pointed out towards the end point of the gully. D' suja ملوح واشار الى قرب نهاية نقطة من اخوار. We all looked up and saw in shaded light two huge birds were jumping and catching the flying fishes that were forcefully pushed by the flowing sea waves. وكلنا شاهد ونظرت رفع المظلله في ضوء اثنين هاءله من الطيور القفز والطيران صيد الاسماك التي كانت بقوة دفعت به الامواج المتدفقه. Water was splashing and the flying fishes were trying to go back in the retreating waves. المياه والرش وكان الطيران اسماك كانوا يحاولون العودة في تراجع موجات. The birds were catching them with their strong beaks. الطيور تم القبض عليهم مع التزامهم القوي مناقير. They were spreading their wings half and were enjoying the meals! كانت تنتشر اجنحتها مركزا نصف وكانت تتمتع الوجبات! At times both the birds were dancing face to face and were making gobbling sound! في بعض الأحيان كل الطيور يرقصون وجها لوجه ويبذلان gobbling سليمة! In deed it was a wonderful sight! في الفعل كان رائعا البصر!

Samir whispered and said, “ The birds are, no doubt, albatross; brown and white color with their wide wings are their characteristic features. سمير مهموس ، وقالت ان "الطيور هي ، ولا شك ، وطيور القطرس ؛ براون وبيضاء اللون على نطاق واسع مع سواعد هم من السمات المميزه. But how they have come here!” ولكن كيف اتيت الى هنا! "
D’Suja laughed and said “ Sir, these birds are the pet birds of the ship; mainly I look after them”. D' suja ضحك وقال "سيدي ، هذه الطيور هي الطيور الداجنه من السفينة ؛ اساسا انني اتطلع من بعدهم".

It was my turn to be astonished further. كان لي أن انتقل إلى استهجن كذلك. I told, “ Where do they stay? قلت ، "اين يقيمون؟ Since how long they are living here? منذ متى كانوا يعيشون هنا؟ So far, we did not see them!” حتى الآن ، ونحن لا نراهم! "

- “ Sir, their nests are in the monkey deck, above. -- "سيدي الرئيس ، هي في الاعشاش القرد سطح السفينة ، اعلاه. They have taken shelter for the last three to four months here”. حلوا المأوى لآخر ثلاثة او اربعة اشهر هنا ".

- “ Don’t they fly away? -- "انها لا تطير بعيدا؟ How they manage their food?” كيف يديرونها غذائهم؟ "

- “ Usually, in the morning they fly away for their catch! -- "عادة ، في الصباح وهي تحلق بعيدا للصيد! In the evening, they come back and settle in their nest in the upper most deck that is in the monkey deck. في المساء ، وانهم يعودون في تسوية عش في الجزء العلوي من معظم سطح السفينة هو ان القرد في سطح السفينة. Our Chieftain has a soft corner for them. لدينا زعيم له ركن لينة لهم. Many a time I provide them food like fish, squid etc” كثير من الوقت الذي توفر لهم انني الاغذيه مثل الأسماك ، الحبار الخ "

- “ Are they not afraid of the people? -- "هي انها لا تخاف من الناس؟ And you said they are now pet!” وقلتم وهم الآن حيوان أليف! "

- “ Yes, sir, now they have become our pet and dear ones! -- "نعم ، سيدي ، والآن فقد اصبحت لدينا الحيوانات الاليفه ومنها الاعزاء! Nice birds they are! نيس الطيور وهم! They are accustomed now with us, they don’t fear us! انهم اعتادوا الآن معنا ، وانهم لا خوف علينا! And now you will see how they go back to their nests”. والآن سترون كيف انها العودة الى الاعشاش ".

D’Suja started clapping and Mimi crying their sound! D' suja بدأ التصفيق والبكاء على ميمي سليمة! The birds were turning their head and were trying to locate D’Suja. الطيور كانت تحول الرأس وكانوا يحاولون العثور d' suja. They stopped catching fishes, flew over our head, and reached to the top of the ship in the monkey deck! وتوقفت صيد الاسماك ، ونحن فوق الرأس ، وصلت الى الجزء العلوي من سفينة في القرد سطح السفينة! Their stretched wings were huge and were not less than three meters or so! على رغم الضغوط كانت هاءله وسواعد كانت لا تقل عن ثلاثة امتار أو نحو ذلك!

We were delighted, amused and surprised. شعرنا بالسعاده ، ومستمتع بالدهشه. Debojyoti asked D’Suja “ You said that you were guarding them; is it that you were protecting them but protecting from whom?” Debojyoti سأل d' suja "قلتم انكم كانت تحرس لهم ؛ هل لك ان كانت تحمي حمايه لهم ولكن من منهم؟"

- “ Sir, this research vessel is a miraculous ship! -- "سيدي ، هذا هو سفينة الابحاث معجزه السفينة! No body should harm those albatrosses otherwise, we sailors believe, disastrous will fall on us! لا ينبغي ان تضر هذه الهيءه القطرس خلاف ذلك ، ونحن نعتقد البحاره ، كارثه ستقع علينا! I have another pet in this ship; I take personal care for him. عندي آخر حيوان أليف في هذه السفينة ؛ اغتنم العنايه الشخصيه له. I caught him in my home at Goa and with the permission of the Chieftain I got him in this ship!” مسكت له في بيتي في غوا ومع اذن من زعيم صعودي اليه في هذه السفينة "!

He stopped for a while and made a peculiar sound using his two palms and the mouth. وتوقف لبعض الوقت وادلى غريبة السليمه في استخدام مساعيه اثنين من نخيل والفم. The storm was strong; there was no sign of stopping of rains, we all were silent and suddenly heard the screeching call from near to the loft below the lifeboat! العاصفة القويه ؛ كان هناك اي علامة على التوقف من الامطار ، ونحن جميعا كانت صامتة وفجاه سمعوا الصراخ الكلمه من قرب الى الغرفة العلويه دون حبل النجاة! We looked each other and D’Suja went to that part and from an wooden cage kept aside the loft, took out a bird. بحثنا عن بعضها البعض وd' suja ذهب الى ان جزءا من وجود قفص خشبي ابقى جانبا الغرفة العلويه ، واحاطت بها طائر. In the shaded light, we saw an owl with its strong beak and two large round eyes. في ضوء مظلله ، شهدنا ألبومه مع التزامه القوي منقار ودولتان كبيرتان العيون المستديره. D’Suja said something and released the bird. D' suja قال شيئا واطلقت سراح الطيور. The owl flew near to the edge of the gully and chose one shaded zone. ألبومه حلقت بالقرب من الحافه الى من اخوار واحد اختار المنطقة المظلله. The bird started catching the flying fishes and was enjoying its meal! الطائر بدأ الطيران التقاط الاسماك وتتمتع اعماله وجبة!
D’Suja was quite satisfied, he said, “ The whole night he may continue eating; after some time I will come and take him to the cage! D' suja مقتنع تماما ، وقال : "طوال الليل ويجوز له الاستمرار في الاكل ؛ بعد بعض الوقت ساتي ونقله الى القفص!

Actually, I was protecting the albatrosses from this owl! في الواقع ، كنت حمايه القطرس من هذه البومة! They would fight fiercely for their common and favorite prey!” انهم سيحارب بشراسه لمسؤولياتها المشتركة والفريسه المفضلة! "
The owl’s eyes were glowing and were rotating! ألبومه العيون كانت متوهجه وكان التناوب! From that distance, the eyes appeared two fire balls floating and dwindling. من تلك المسافة ، يبدو ان اثنين من عيون النار الكرات العاءمه وتضاءل. I became concerned about the future of those birds. انني اصبحت تشعر بالقلق إزاء المستقبل من تلك الطيور. I asked D’Suja “ What will happen to these birds when the ship returns to Netaji Subhas dock at Kolkata for dry docking and not much time is left! سألت d' suja "ولكن ماذا سيحدث لهذه الطيور عندما تكون السفينة العودة الى netaji subhas الرصيف فى كولكاتا للاراضي الجافه والالتحام لا يترك الكثير من الوقت! Only after three months the ship will be taken there! فقط بعد ثلاثة اشهر السفينة ستؤخذ هناك! What will happen to those birds then?” ولكن ماذا سيحدث لهذه الطيور بعد ذلك؟ "

- “ Yes, sir, it is true; during that time they have to vacate the ship; in fact, in the sand head itself the albatrosses will be chased away and the owl will not be a problem”. -- "نعم ، سيدي الرئيس ، صحيح ؛ خلال ذلك الوقت لديهم لاخلاء السفينة ؛ في الواقع ، في الرمال رئيس نفسها القطرس سيكون لاحقت بعيدا وألبومه لن يكون مشكلة".

- “ Why, the owl will not be a problem! -- "لماذا ، البومة لن يكون مشكلة! It also to be chased away otherwise where will you keep?” كما لاحقت يكون بعيدا خلاف ذلك حيث سوف تبقى لكم؟ "

- “ It will stay back here; some of us will have to stay back during the dry docking, thus there will be no problem for the owl. -- "سيبقون هنا الى الوراء ؛ البعض منا سيتعين على البقاء الى الوراء اثناء رسو السفن الجافه ، وبالتالي لن يكون هناك اي مشكلة بالنسبة للبومة. Our people will look after him. شعبنا سيظهر من بعده. After all the owl is the symbol of prosperous and progress!” بعد كل ما هو البومة رمزا للرخاء والتقدم! "

Mean while the rains became more intense and the storm was blowing through; Debojyoti told “ Asimda, let us go back to our cabins… it is not safe now’. يعني حين اصبحت اكثر كثافه الامطار وهبوب العاصفة من خلال ؛ debojyoti ل "asimda ، فلنعد الى اعمالنا حجرات… انها لن تكون في مأمن الان'.

D’Suja said, “ Yes sir, the situation is worsening; the deck is not safe now; please go ahead and give me the bottles, I will take them in the down floor”. D' suja قال : "نعم سيدي ، ان الحاله تزداد سوءا ؛ الطابق لن تكون في مأمن الآن ؛ اتفضل وتعطيني الزجاجات ، وسأتخذ منها في اسفل الكلمه".

I appreciated his gesture and we three slowly, very carefully left the deck, and took shelter in the recreation room in the down stair. انا اقدر له لفتة ونحن ثلاثة ببطء ، بعناية فاءقه غادرت سطح السفينة ، واتخذوا مأوى في غرفة الترفيه في اسفل الدرجة. All other scientists were assembled there and were sitting helplessly, the video was on but no body was attentive. سائر العلماء كانت هناك تجميعها وكانت تجلس عاجزه ، الفيديو ولكن ليس على جثته اليقظه. The recreation room was actually in the central part of the ship and thus the effect of rolling and pitching was much less. الترفيه الغرفة كان فعلا في الجزء الأوسط من السفينة وبالتالي أثر المتداول والترويج كان اقل بكثير. D’Suja brought the Nansen bottle and kept in the adjacent Chemical Laboratory. D' suja اوصل نانسن زجاجة وأبقى في المنطقة المتاخمه المختبر الكيميائي. The whole night, we had stay back in the recreation room and were waiting for the rains and the storm to stop. طوال الليل ، وكان علينا البقاء الى الوراء في مجال الترفيه وتنتظران الامطار العاصفة وتوقف. Early morning the intensity was reduced, rolling-pitching was also less and the life came back in the ship. في الصباح الباكر كان انخفاض كثافه ، المتداول - الترويج كان ايضا اقل وعادت الحياة في السفينة.

We started our activity and decided to continue the seabed sampling. بدأنا نشاطنا وقررت الاستمرار في قاع البحر اخذ العينات. Every body was cheerful and in happy mood. كل جثته ، مرح وسعيدة في المزاج. People started coming to the aft deck where sampling operation used to be conducted.; some one would operate the winch through the ‘A’ frame, some one would observe the winch wire releasing smoothly or retrieving without any wire entanglement. بدا الناس في مؤخرة السفينة القادمة الى سطح السفينة تستخدم فيها عملية أخذ العينات التي ستجرى. ؛ بعض واحد من شأنه تشغيل الرافعه عن طريق 'ا' الاطار ، واحد من شأنه ان بعض مراقبة رافعه الأسلاك أو استرجاع الافراج بسلاسه دون اي تشابك الاسلاك.

I was supervising the entire job every now and then. الاول هو الاشراف على عمل كامل بين الحين والآخر. In the night hours, D’Suja joined as crew hand with other two scientists. في ساعات الليل ، d' suja انضمت الى طاقم من جهة أخرى مع اثنين من العلماء. I was sitting in the caned chair; he came near and said “ Sir, I will present you one rare flower when you sign off the ship” كنت أجلس في ضرب بالعصا الرئاسة ؛ اتي القريب ، وقال "سيدي الرئيس ، سأقدم لكم زهرة نادرة واحدة عند تسجيل الدخول من السفينة"

I laughed and asked “ Flower! انا ضحك وسأل "زهرة! Where will you get the flower in this ship?” اين سيتم حصولك على زهرة في هذه السفينة؟ "

- “ Yes sir from the ship only! -- "نعم سيدي من السفينة فقط! It has bloomed half; another half will bloom within fifteen days! وقد ازهرت النصف ؛ آخر نصف سوف تزدهر في غضون خمسة عشر يوما! I will show you tomorrow!” انا سوف أوضح لك غدا! "

- “ OK, simply fantastic; but then what happened to the albatrosses? -- "حسنا ، ببساطة رائع ؛ ولكن ما حصل بعد ذلك الى القطرس؟ I am more worried about them.” انا اكثر وتتخوف منها. "

- “ They are in their nest and has laid down one egg too!” -- "وهم في عش وضعت بيضة واحدة ايضا!"

- “ Is it so? -- "هل هو كذلك؟ But it is very unfortunate I suppose”. ولكن ومن المؤسف جدا افترض ".

- “ Why sir! -- "لماذا يا سيدي! It is rather a boon for this ship, sir! بل هي هبة لهذه السفينة ، سيدي!

- “ That is alright! -- "ان هو حسنا! But what will happen after three months when the ship goes for dry-docking? ولكن ماذا سيحدث بعد ثلاثة اشهر عندما تكون السفينة يذهب لرسو السفن الجافه؟ Earlier they were two, now they are with their cheek also!” فى وقت سابق كانوا اثنين ، والان هم مع الخد ايضا "!

- “ Oh. -- "أوه. That problem is solved sir! ان يتم ايجاد حل لمشكلة السير! Chieftain said when we reach Port Blair, the albatrosses and their chick will be taken to the zoo and will be arranged one nest for them. وقال زعيم عندما نصل الى بورت بلير ، والقطرس والفرخ ستؤخذ الى الحديقة وسترتب عش لأحد منهم. The Director of the zoo is a friend of the Chieftain!” مدير حديقة الحيوان هو صديق للزعيم! "

- “ Oh, then it is nice! -- "أوه ، ومن ثم نيس! I thought that you would chase them away in the sand head!” كنت أظن انكم سوف مطاردتهم بعيدا في الرمال رئيس! "

- “ No, sir, we have changed our idea; we will see that no harm is done on those birds” -- "لا ، يا سيدي ، لقد غيرنا فكرتنا ؛ سنرى ان لا ضرر من ذلك على تلك الطيور"

The days went by and we completed our job and returned to Port Blair. الأيام التي ذهبت بها واكملنا مهمتنا وعاد الى بورت بلير. D’Suja presented me a very big red & yellow colored beautiful flower germinated out from a big corm. D' suja قدم لي كبير جدا ، اصفر اللون الاحمر & زهرة جميلة من اصل نامي كبيرة corm.

I carried the flower to my home and every body was delighted and charmed with its beauty. انا حملت الزهور الى بيتي ويسعد كل هيئة ومسحور مع جماله. I came to know that kind of flower would emit strong fetid odor through out the night. جئت لمعرفة هذا النوع من الزهور fetid سوف تنبعث منها رائحة قوية من خلال أصل الليل.
