Asim was in Edinborough during 1986. عاصم كان في edinborough خلال 1986. He went there for training in exploration in Marine geology in different institutions in United Kingdom. ذهب هناك للتدريب فى مجال التنقيب فى مجال الجيولوجيا البحرية فى مختلف المؤسسات في المملكه المتحدة. There in Edinborough he had been associated in British Geological Survey. هناك في edinborough كان قد ارتبط في داءره المسح الجيولوجي البريطانية. Edinborough is in Scotland and the place appeared to him a wonderful merry land. Edinborough هو في اسكتلندا والمكان بدا له رائع المرح الارض. It was summer and thus the cold was not severe. كان الصيف الباردة وبالتالي لم تكن شديدة. The first day when he arrived there by the British Rail from Waterloo station, he was simply overwhelmed with the greeneries all around. في اليوم الاول عندما وصل الى هناك عن طريق السكك الحديديه البريطانية من محطة ووترلو ، وقال انه ببساطة مع جميع انحاء greeneries. The beautiful transport system, clean roads, shopping centers charmed him. الجميل لنظام النقل ، والطرق النظيفه ، ومراكز التسوق مسحور له. As such this place is famous for medical institutions. على هذا النحو هو في هذا المكان الشهير لمؤسسات طبية. Students from different parts of the globe come here for higher studies. طلاب من مختلف بقاع الأرض يأتون الى هنا للدراسات العليا. Asim had put up in a Guest House arranged by the sponsoring agency. عاصم قد طرح في بيت الضيافة التي تنظمها الوكالة الراعية. Every day after having his breakfast Asim used to walk down the street to reach the laboratory of British Geological Survey. كل يوم بعد الافطار صاحب عاصم المستخدمة يسير في الشارع لتصل الى المختبر البريطاني للمسح الجيولوجي. It was not far off, hardly one kilometer or so. لم يكن بعيدا ، بالكاد على بعد كيلومتر واحد او نحو ذلك. The cherry and the willow trees were in queue on either side of the road. الكرز واشجار الصفصاف في طابور على جانبي الطريق. Beautiful nightingale used to peep through the branch of the trees and used to sing songs! الجميل العندليب تستخدم لمحة عن طريق فرع من الاشجار وتستخدم في الغناء الأغاني!
Peter in the Institute used to tell, “ Have you not visited the harbor here? بيتر في معهد المستخدمة لاقول ، "الم زار الميناء هنا؟ You must be knowing that your research vessel has been rebuilt here only!” يجب عليك ان تكون مع العلم بأن ما تتمتعون به سفينة الابحاث قد أعيد بناؤه هنا فقط! "
Asim replied “No, not yet! عاصم اجاب "لا ، ليس بعد! If you don’t take me there, how can I visit?” اذا كنت لا تأخذ لي هناك ، وكيف يمكنني ان الزيارة؟ "
Peter smiled and told, “Is it so? بيتر ابتسم ، وقال : "انه امر بذلك؟ Are you interested to go? هل انت مهتم الذهاب؟ OK then, we all will visit tomorrow, myself, you, Sheila and Lolo will go.” ثم موافق ، ونحن جميعا سيزور غدا ، وانا شخصيا ، كنت ، وشيلا لولو سيذهب ".
Next day they all went to the nearby port. وفي اليوم التالي ذهب الى أنهم جميع الموانئ القريبه. Peter was driving the Institutes car; it was quite cozy and comfortable. بيتر كان يقود سيارة المعاهد ؛ فهي تتسم cozy ومريحه. Within an hour they reached the port. في غضون ساعة وصلوا الى الميناء. Wonderful sight in deed! مشهد رائع في عمل! Albatross were flying over the blue coloured water mass of the Atlantic. البطروس كانت تحلق فوق المياه الزرقاء اللون الجماهيري من المحيط الاطلسي. Series of small to big sized ships were anchored in the outer shelf; some of them were in motion too. سلسلة من الصغيرة الى الكبيرة الحجم كانت السفن الراسيه في الرصيف القاري الخارجي ؛ بعضهم في الاقتراح ايضا. In another corner a quite good number of yacht were moving fast each other. في ركن آخر الى حد بعيد من عدد لا بأس به من يخت تسير بسرعة بعضها البعض.
Peter said “ Asim, look there! وقال بيتر "عاصم ، وهناك نظرة! The offshore platform of British Gas! اللااقليمي منهاج بريتش جاز! Do you see? هل ترى؟ Of course, you also have started offshore drilling in the Bombay High! طبعا ، كما كنت قد بدأت عمليات الحفر في اعماق البحر في بومباي عالية! Is not it?” أليس كذلك؟ "
Asim replied, “ Yes, there in Bombay High, Oil and Natural Gas Commission is engaged in exploring the oil. عاصم اجاب : "نعم ، هناك ارتفاع في بومباي ، والنفط والغاز الطبيعي لجنة تشارك في استكشاف النفط. Mr. Peter, you had shown me many ‘pock marks’ (domal shaped gas charged sediment) picked up in the shallow seismic analogue. السيد بيتر ، وكنت قد بينت لي الكثير 'البثره علامات' (domal تتشكل الغاز المكلفه الرواسب) التقطت في الزلازل الضحله التناظريه. I guess, those ‘pock marks’ are from this part of the area! أحزر ، تلك 'البثره علامات' هى من هذا الجزء من المنطقة! Am I correct Mr. Peter?” انا تصحيح السيد بيتر؟ "
To this Sheila responded immediately, she said, “ Yes, you are right. لهذا شيلا استجابت على الفور ، وقالت : "نعم ، انتم على حق. It is the same place around which we conducted the seismic survey of the sea bed”. ومن نفس المكان الذي حولها اجرينا المسح السيزمي من قاع البحر ". She continued further “…. وقالت انها واصلت كذلك "…. We sold the seismic analogue to the British Gas and now they are exploring and exploiting…”. بعنا السيزميه التناظريه الى الغاز البريطانية ، والآن هم استكشاف واستغلال… ". Peter interrupted “ By the by, do you know Nimai Chand & Co? بيتر توقف "به من قبل ، هل تعرف nimai chand & المشارك؟ It’s proprietor Mr.Nimai Chand is very much here. انه المالك mr.nimai chand كثيرا هنا. He has come here for some business deal with the British Gas. لقد أتيت الى هنا لبعض الأعمال للتعامل مع الغاز البريطانية. It is quite funny that he can not write or speak English and so he has brought his chief Secretary one, Mr.Keshri….”. ومن المضحك تماما انه لا يستطيع ان يكتب أو يتكلم الانجليزيه وذلك اضفاها له رئيس الوزراء ووزير واحد ، mr.keshri…. ".
The name Nimai Chand was very familiar to Asim but immediately he could not place him. اسم nimai chand كانت مالوفه جدا لعاصم ولكن على الفور وقال انه لا يستطيع مكان له. However Keshri’s name reminded him every thing. ولكن keshri اسم تذكير له كل شيء. He had heard that Nimai Chand had set up a big company dealing with the mineral matters particularly minerals for lubricating fillers in the deep drilling purpose. وقال انه لم يسمع ان nimai chand انشأت شركة كبيرة تتعامل مع الامور وخاصة المعادن المعدنية لالتشحيم الحشو في الحفر العميق الغرض. Asim thought whether Peter was referring him only! عاصم بيتر الفكر سواء كان يشير إليه فقط! Meanwhile some more people had joined Mr.Peter , he got engaged in talking and discussing with them. في غضون ذلك بعض أكبر من الناس قد انضمت الى mr.peter ، وحصل تشارك في الحديث ونناقش معهم. Asim silently left them and a little distance away he stood near a vessel and started recollecting the event of his old younger days. عاصم بصمت ويترك لهم قليلا المسافة البعيدة كان واقفا قرب احدى السفن وبدأت تذكير حال بلدة القديمة الاصغر ايام.
Around ten years before Asim came on leave from his service center at Jaipur in Rajasthan to his hometown in West Bengal. قبل حوالى عشر سنوات عاصم جاء في اجازة من خدمته في مركز جايبور في راجستان الى مسقط رأسه في غرب البنغال. He and his old friends had a meeting place in Jamal’s clock shop. وقال انه كان له اصدقاء قدامى مكانا للاجتماع في الساعة متجر جمال. All the friends, now placed in different parts of India, generally come on long leave from their service center to this home town and assemble in this shop during the festival time. جميع الاصدقاء ، وضعت الان في اجزاء مختلفة من الهند ، عموما يأتي على اجازة طويلة من مركز الخدمة لهذه المدينة التي يقيم فيها وتجمع في هذا المحل مرة خلال المهرجان. One day, Jamal showed Asim a piece of earthen material wrapped in a piece of old news paper and told “ Asim this material has been handed over by one Mr.Keshri for you for identification. يوم واحد ، واظهرت جمال عاصم قطعة من مواد ترابيه ملفوفه في قطعة من الورق والأخبار القديمة ل "عاصم هذه المادة قد سلمها لأحد mr.keshri لكم لتحديد الهوية. Yester day he came and waited for you for quite a long time and ultimately left hope and went away. وقال انه جاء في اليوم الاسبق وكنت انتظر منذ فترة طويلة ونامل في نهاية المطاف غادر وذهب بعيدا. He told however, that he will again come to meet you may be to day in the evening”. وقال لبيد انه لن يأتي مرة اخرى لتلبية انك قد تكون ليوم في المساء ".
Asim saw the material curiously. عاصم شهد الماديه الغريب. It was soft, soapstone like, lumpy and greasy material. كانت لينة ، مثل الحجر الاملس ، والعقدي دهني الماديه. No doubt it was a clay mineral but how it is so significant that a man takes all the trouble to come repeatedly for him! ولا شك انه كان طين المعدنية ولكن كم هي كبيرة حتى ان رجلا يأخذ كل عناء لتأتي مرارا لله! Anyhow he had not to wait any further; Mr.Keshri with his broad smiling face just arrived! على أي حال ليست لديه أي مزيد من الانتظار ؛ mr.keshri له وجه مبتسم واسع وصل لتوه! Without any formal introduction he told “Babu (Sir), I am Keshri, have you examined the sample? بدون أي رسمية مقدمة قال "بابو (السير) ، وأنا keshri ، هل قمت بفحص عينه؟ Babu, by selling this material, Nimai Chand has accumulated a huge amount of wealth. بابو ، من خلال بيع هذه المواد ، nimai chand لقد تراكمت كمية كبيرة من الثروة. He has become a rich man! وقال انه اصبح رجل غني! These materials are dug from his nearby land and are stacked in one place. هذه المواد هي حفر بلدة قريبة من الارض وهي مكدس في مكان واحد. People come and collect those materials and leaves with truckload. يأتي الناس وجمع تلك المواد ويترك مع حموله شاحنة. Even a railway track is also under construction for transport up to the nearest station at Teen Pahari”. حتى خط السكة الحديد الذي هو أيضا قيد الانشاء لنقل ما يصل الى أقرب محطة في pahari المراهقه ".
Asim asked “Where from this material is? عاصم وتساءل : "أين هو من هذه المواد؟ And what you want?” وماذا تريد؟ "
Keshri replied, “Babu, this material is from Teen Pahari area (Three hills) in Bihar. Keshri اجابت ، "بابو ، وهذه المواد هي من المراهقه pahari المجال (ثلاثة تلال) في بيهار. Babu I want to take you there with me, if possible by tomorrow only. بابو اريد ان اغتنم لكم معي هناك ، واذا امكن قبل الغد فقط. Please don’t say no; I have similar such land nearby. الرجاء عدم قول لا ؛ عندي مماثلة هذه الاراضي القريبه. I want you to survey and examine the area…” He was talking ceaselessly; Asim did not give much importance to the later part. اريدكم مسح ودراسة المنطقة… "كان يتحدث بلا توقف ؛ عاصم لا يعطي قدرا كبيرا من الاهميه على جزء لاحق. He was thinking what the material could be! وقال انه كان يفكر في ما يمكن ان تكون ماديه!
Returning home, Asim consulted Dana’s book of Mineralogy and tested streak, hardness and other physical characters of the mineral. يعودون الى ديارهم ، عاصم استشارة دانا كتاب المعادن واختبار شريط ، وقسوه جسديه اخرى حرفا من المعادن. He compared the characters and found its refractive index was same with that of water. وقال انه بالمقارنة مع الحروف والانكسار وجد نفسه مع أنه كان من المياه. Thus the mineral when put in a glass of water, immediately it becomes invisible and dissolves quickly. وهكذا المعدنية عندما توضع فى كوب من الماء ، وعلى الفور يصبح غير مرئي وسرعان ما يذوب. Yes, the mineral came out to be bentonite, an altered clay mineral very much useful as lubricating material for drilling. نعم ، خرج المعدنية ليكون bentonite ، تعديل في احد طين المعدنية المفيدة جدا كما مواد التشحيم لالحفر.
Asim, thus got interested and the next day he accompanied Mr.Keshri and surveyed the area. عاصم ، وهكذا حصل والمهتمين في اليوم التالي رافق mr.keshri ومسحا للمنطقة. Range of hillocks of Deccan Traps was all around. مجموعة من الروابي deccan من فخاخ كان جميع انحاء. Plenty of patches of bentonite clay were found above the basaltic traps. الكثير من البقع bentonite طين عثر فوق الصخور البازلتيه الفخاخ. A little distance away, a lot of people were seen engaged in mining bentonites. قليلا من المسافة البعيدة ، والكثير من الناس ينظر الى المشاركة في التعدين bentonites.
Mr.Keshri said, “ Those are of Nimachand’s mines! Mr.keshri قال ، "هؤلاء هم من nimachand's الألغام! What a fortunate man! ما هي محاسن رجل! A few years back he had nothing; he was living the life of a beggar! بضع سنوات الى الوراء لديه أي شيء ؛ كان يعيش حياة اي شحاذ! Do you know, he used to maintain his livelihood by selling tamarind from his few trees! هل تعلمون ، وقال انه يستخدم للحفاظ على معيشته عن طريق بيع تمر هندي من بلدة القليلة الاشجار! Now you see, how rich he is! انظر اليكم الآن ، كيف وهو الغني! He has constructed a big Manson here!” فقد شيدت كبيرة Manson هنا! "
Asim enquired, “How it happened? عاصم تساءلت : "كيف حدث؟ Has he trade license as per mineral act? وقد اعرب عن الرخصه التجارية وفقا للقانون المعدنية؟ It is a remote place! ومن مكان بعيد! Three or four tribal families are living here! ثلاثة او اربعة القبلية الاسر التى تعيش هنا! No school, no hospital, no amenities for civilized life. لا مدرسة ، لا المستشفى ، ولا أسباب الراحة للحياة المتحضره. How it happened really?” كيف حدث فعلا؟ "
Keshri replied, “ You will be surprised to know Babu that he is illiterate! Keshri اجابت ، "انك لن تفاجا ان يعرف بابو انه من الأميين! He is a local man here and has a few acres of land mostly unsuitable for agriculture! وهو رجل المحلية هنا ودية بضع الفدادين من الاراضي معظمها غير صالحة للزراعة! But that is a boon for him! ولكن هذا هو نعمة بالنسبة له! I heard a big mineral company doing business nearby located this mineral and finally entered business with Nimai Chand also. سمعت كبيرة المعدنية الشركة ممارسة الاعمال التجارية القريبه تقع هذه المعدنية وأخيرا دخلت التجارية مع nimai chand ايضا. They could not avoid him because he is a tribal man and tribe’s land can not be sold or purchased, as you know!” انهم لا يستطيعون تجنب له لانه هو رجل القبلية والقبيلة الأرض لا يمكن أن تباع أو تشترى ، وكما تعلمون! "
Both of them were engrossed and did not know when three persons with long bamboo sticks came near to them and watched them silently. كلا منهم منسوخ ولم أكن أدري عندما ثلاثة اشخاص مع اعواد الخيزران طويلة جاء القريب لهم ومراقبتهم لها في صمت. Finally one of them said with serious tone in Hindi “What are you doing here? وأخيرا قال أحدهم خطيرة في اللهجه الهندية "ماذا تفعلين هنا؟ It is better that you leave the place immediately! ومن الافضل لك ان تغادر المكان فورا! It is the order of Nimai Chand Babu! ومن ترتيب nimai chand بابو! And no more arguments!” Asim and Keshri could understand the situation and without any further word left the place and returned home by the next train. وحجج لا أكثر! "عاصم وkeshri يمكن فهم الحاله ودون اى مزيد من كلمة غادر المكان وعاد بها القطار القادم. Asim understood that Nimai Chand would not tolerate any body’s intervention in his present business. عاصم يفهم ان nimai chand لن تتسامح مع اي هيئة تدخل في ولايته الحالية التجارية.
Peter called Asim and asked “ What happened Asim, I was calling you for a long time! دعا بيتر عاصم وتساءل : "ما حدث عاصم ، كنت داعيا لكم لوقت طويل! You are absent minded, What are you thinking of? انت مشغول البال ، ماذا كنت أفكر؟ Are you interested to meet Mr. Nimai Chand? هل انت مهتم لعقد اجتماع مع السيد nimai chand؟ Yes, he is available now in that Research vessel.” The white coloured ‘Polaris’ research vessel was seen anchored in the inner self zone. نعم ، وهو متوفر الآن في ان سفينة الابحاث ". البيضاء اللون' بولاريس 'سفينة الابحاث شوهد ارسائه في المنطقة الداخلية الذاتية.
