فقط في سنغافورة

As I walked passed the colourful Singapore tourism hoarding, screaming ‘Uniquely Singapore’, the travel bug bit me harder. مشيت كما اصدرت سنغافورة للسياحة تكدس الالوان ، يصرخون 'فقط في سنغافورة' ، السفر عله اصعب قليلا لي. When I finally donned my traveler’s hat with camera in tote, Singapore unveiled a different kind of uniqueness. وأخيرا انني عندما بلدي السياحيه مرتدي القبعات الكاميرا في حاسبة المراهنات ، وسنغافورة النقاب عن نوع مختلف من التفرد.

As expected ‘Uniquely Singapore’ did its bit of showcasing the best bird’s park, the best zoo, the best amusement park among the other bests. وكما كان متوقعا 'فقط في سنغافورة' ما عليها قليلا لعرض افضل حديقة الطيور ، فان افضل حديقة حيوان ، فان افضل بين حدائق ترفيهية اخرى بيستس. However what met my eye was more than the brand ‘Singapore’ – it was the disciplined behind the scene activities that catered to the masses that kindled my interest. ولكن ما اجتمع حياتي ، وكان اكثر من العلامه التجارية 'سنغافورة' -- منضبطه وكان خلف الكواليس الانشطه فئات الجماهير ان موقد اهتمامي.

The city’s landscape is like a neatly drawn bar graph. المدينة المناظر الطبيعيه مثل الرسم البياني بار الانتباه بعناية. Symmetry is the key. التناظر هو مفتاح. No asymmetrical monstrosities peep out to spoil the picture postcard. المسوخ لا غير متناظره اللمحه الى افسد صورة بريديه. Self sufficient matchbox like buildings called HDB flats seemed to be the character defining structures of the city. النفس ما يكفي من علبة الثقاب ، مثل المباني ودعا hdb الشقق ويبدو ان تحديد طبيعه الهياكل من المدينة. Old timers tell me these HDB (Housing and Development Board) flats not only changed the slummy face of Singapore to its current chic look, but also resolved the housing problems of a growing population. قل لي من العمر توقيت هذه hdb (والاسكان ومجلس التنمية) شقق ليس فقط غيرت وجه slummy الحالية لسنغافورة شيك نظره ، ولكن ايضا حل مشاكل الاسكان لعدد متزايد من السكان.

Singapore is the second most densely populated country in the world with a population of 4 million in its 697 sq km of land. وسنغافورة هي الثانية الاكثر كثافه سكانيه في العالم بلد يبلغ عدد سكانه 4 ملايين دولار في 697 كلم مربعا من الاراضي. Obviously housing problem loomed large. ومن الواضح ان مشكلة الاسكان كبيرة تلوح في الافق. The slums or Kampongs were razed to accommodate smart affordable HDB flats attached with all amenities including community markets, schools, shopping centres and hospital. الاحياء الفقيره او kampongs كانت قطعة ارض مساحتها لاستيعاب الذكيه الشقق بأسعار معقولة hdb المرفقه مع جميع وسائل الراحة بما في اسواق الجماعة الاوروبية ، والمدارس ، ومراكز التسوق والمستشفيات. The idea being the HDB resident does not leave his locale for basic needs. الفكره هي hdb المقيم لا يترك له الموقع لتلبية الاحتياجات الاساسية.

The allotment of HDB flats is an interesting process in itself. تخصيص الشقق hdb عملية مثيرة للاهتمام في حد ذاته. The interested party applies and the allotment is usually on first come first serve basis. المعني بالامر والمخصصات وينطبق عادة على من يصل اولا يخدم اولا. However chances of a quicker allotment are high if parents of either spouse stay within 2 kms radius of the applied locality. غير ان فرص التوصل الى اسرع ارتفاع المخصصات واذا كان الوالدان من أحد الزوجين البقاء داخل داءره نصف قطرها 2 كيلو متر من المكان الذي يطبق. An ideal way to soft pedal values to the country facing the threat of a rising ageing population. على النحو الأمثل لينة دواسه القيم الى البلاد تواجه خطر تزايد شيخوخه السكان. A water tight housing policy ensures no religious or ethnic pockets are created and national loyalty is fostered through social cohesion. المياه ضيقة لا يضمن سياسة الاسكان او دينية او عرقيه جيوب يتم انشاؤها والولاء الوطني هو من خلال تعزيز التماسك الاجتماعى.

I was also told that the natives can give the littering and spitting Indian a run for his money when it comes to cleanliness, but a strict government and laws cast in stone ensured a complete turn around over the years. وكنت ايضا وقال ان المواطنين يمكن ان تعطي النفايات والبصق الهندية الجري امواله ، عندما يتعلق الامر النظافه ، ولكن الحكومة والقوانين الصارمه في الحجر يلقى يكفل بدورة كاملة حول مدى السنين. 4 million people marching to the same drum beat in clockwork precision is no mean feat to achieve. 4 ملايين شخص فى مسيرة الى نفس اسطوانة فازت اليه الساعة في الدقه لا يستهان به من اجل تحقيق. The metamorphosis from dirty kampongs to a clean nation took a toll on the common man’s wallet and freedom but the effort paid off. فان التحول من kampongs القذره نظيفة لأمه وأحاط عدد كبير من الوفيات المشتركة الرجل المحفظه ولكن جهد حرية آتت أكلها. Today Singapore has the highest standard of living in Asia. اليوم سنغافورة لديها أعلى مستوى المعيشة في آسيا.

Quite naturally my mind ran to my own city infested with slums and bursting in the seams awaiting the drumbeat to commence to begin its transformation to Shanghai! وفي رأيي ان من الطبيعي تماما ان بلدي ودار الحديث على المدينة والاحياء الفقيره التي تنتشر في انفجار اللحامات قرع الطبول في انتظار ان تبدأ لبدء تحولها الى شنغهاي! A ‘unique’ wish indeed! ا 'فريدة' ترغب في الواقع!
