Glenda (author), Derek (her husband), Craig (her first son) and Stuart (her second son) were living in Kuwait. It was on 23rd August 1990, when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait for its oil.

Later Derek was caught by the Iraqi guards and was taken to Baghdad. Not only Derek was caught, but also, men who were staying in their areas. Soon, all women went to Kuwait hotel as hostages. They were sad because it was more than two weeks that their husbands were caught by the Iraqi guards. Later they all went to Baghdad to meet their men.

All the vehicles were destroyed by the Iraqi guards, but they adjusted and started their journey. But it was failed, and once again, they all set to go. They faced many troubles in their second journey. They were anxious about the people who were caught. At last, after a month interval, all hostages met their relatives. They were very happy to find each other alive. Soon they received better food, dress etc... from Iraqi guards. They became very friendly to them. As home prisoners they were not allowed to go outside.

One day, Saddam Hussein visited them in the hotel unexpectedly. Saddam saw Stuart there. But Stuart didn’t smile at him. This gave attraction to the media. Soon after promising many things, Saddam left the hotel. After two weeks, he announced that except men, all will be freed. This forced Glenda to leave Derek, once again. Glenda and her children reached to their native land, Britain. They were received by their relatives. Soon, Glenda got a job and she made her children join in a school. She often contacted Derek through her letters.

At the end, they were also got freed. Soon, Stuart, who refused to smile at Saddam, became the headlines of the news. Because of his attitude, he won many awards which include “Bravery Award.”
