In this story the main characters are Maru, Margaret Cadmore, Moleka, Dikeledi, Ranko, the spy of Maru, Pete, the principal. Margaret Cadmore is a Masarwa woman who came to Dilepe as a primary school teacher. Her skin color made everybody think that she is a white woman, but when she revealed she is not, all started to ignore her. She was taken cared by a white woman named Margaret, before and thus she adopted her name. Maru is the chief in Dilepe. Moleka started to love Margaret, but he didn’t tell her about that. Meanwhile he knew that Maru also loved her.
To cause pain for Maru, Moleka decided and married his sister Dikeledi. Dikeledi later became the principle of the primary school. Margaret was a good painter and she gave her paintings to her friend Dikeledi, who later handed them over to Maru. Soon Maru and Margaret have same dreams. He realizes that when seeing the paintings of Margaret. At the end, Maru married Margaret and left Dilepe to settle in a house which they saw in their dream.
Masarwa women were considered as a minor person, but the story turned when the chief married a woman belonged to that group. This encouraged those minor people feel free.
