Solid Waste Management in Kenya

Kenya wasn’t left behind in the problems of toxic waste management .The country has had it’s own problems with this environment polluting wastes products .While the west was crying for a place to throw their nuclear waste products, Kenya was having her own problems with the plastic packing materials, fertilizers which were washed in the lakes and other water catchment’s areas .The dams and natural ponds and lakes .Lake Nakuru is good evidence.

It was ones reported in the press that the flamingoes of Lake Nakuru and other marine life were dying due to the pollution of their habitat by the toxic waste products from all the human activity in the town. The toxic waste was washed to the lakes by rain water through the rivers .The waste then accumulated there until it was now killing the marine life.

That is for the chemical waste products alone .There are solid waste products from the home and industries too .Polythene is the main one .Most products in Kenya here are packed in polythene and this helps in the spread of polythene up to everybody’s hands and hence ,polythene has become the biggest environmental problem of our time .Plastics take along time to decay and there fore the places that are affected by this kind of pollution will take a very long time to heal .It has long term effects .

The recent move by the Mombassa municipal council to partner with the Italian solid waste management firm called the Jacorrossi Imprese in taking care of the cleaning of the city is quite a big step in the management of this problem of toxic waste products in Kenya and the whole world in general.

Apart from keeping the city clean, this will help in the in getting rid of things like the polythene or the other petroleum products that can not easily decay and will have long term effects on life on this planet.

They will also take the tasks of carrying out research on environmental pollution and find out solutions to these problems. The expertise of the company’s staff is expected to bring about the solutions to the long term problems in this country and to help mankind in the search towards the cleaning and healing of the environment world wide .From the green house effect to everyone’s diet in their own homes just because someone is doing somewhere is doing something about it.

We are expecting much bigger things from the Jacorrossi Impresse than just cleaning the compounds and that is world wide.
