Having a healthy diet is sometimes easier said than done. In this world today, life its self seems to have speeded up, there is an expectancy on all of us, to do more and take on more responsibility. Yet, it seems the faster we go the less time we seem to have. It is tempting to turn to less healthy food choices because they might be easy to get or prepare, or they satisfy a craving. Ready meals are packed and displayed in such a way that we may think and feel we are getting a hearty nutritious meal when in truth we are getting little or no nutrition at all. We are being lied to, by moneymaking manufactures.
Between family, work and/or school, you are probably balancing a hundred things at once. We are told that we need to exercise, stay calm, relax, be more active and diet. It is easy to think that between working, taking care of the family and running a home that we get as much exercise as we need and maybe we do. Maybe we seriously need to look at what we take into our bodies a little closer. Until we start to demand better from the manufactures, they will continue to supply us with what they think we will buy. Taking time to buy the ingredients and cooking a healthy meal may fall last on our list but for the sake of our families and ourselves, we shouldn’t. If all these so called experts are going on about it so much maybe it is important, maybe it’s time to re-think.
There is a lot of information out there and you should know that it isn’t hard to make simple changes to improve your diet (I did, for the whole family) and you can make sense of the mounds of nutritional information out there. A little learning and planning can help you find a diet (don’t you just hate that word) to fit your lifestyle, and maybe you can have some fun in the process! All those naughty foods you like so much, put a chart on the wall, plan when and how many times a week you can look forward to them. If you had a binge-out yesterday, don’t make the mistake in thinking it doesn’t matter today, because it does! One bad day is ok, two or three not so good. You do not have to do with out them, just in moderation. Concentrate on good nutrition, good healthy food and the treats will do little harm.
We do need to keep in mine that obesity in women is on the rise. Overall, about one third of all women are obese, some groups of women will however suffer more than others. A woman’s weight is affected by how much physical activity she does, her diet, and her genes. So you can blame your mother, as I am sure she blamed hers. Obesity is measured with a ‘Body Mass Index’ (BMI), which shows the relationship of weight to height, (Charts can be obtain from clinics and your doctors surgery). As a woman’s body mass increases, so does her risk for serious health problems. Some of these problems include heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and some cancers. So having a healthy diet is one of the most important things you can do for yourself today and to help your overall health. If you burn as many calories as you take in, your weight remains the same. If you take in fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight. So make sure the foods you eat are healthy ones that will work hard for your body.
